Ways to Save Water

There are many easy ways to save water at home! It is easy to believe that turning the faucet off while you are lathering your hands with soap won't do anything, but that is not the case! The more you save water day by day the better. Below I have attached a list of three key changes you can make to your everyday life to save water and help save our environment.

  1. Low flow bathroom fixtures

Installing low flow bathroom fixtures will dramatically reduce the amount of water you use on a day to day basis. The majority of Americans shower daily, and use the toilet several times a day. Over time, cut down of water in these fixtures is one of the best ways to save water in your home.

2. Cut down on meat diet

Fact: One pound of beef takes 1,847 gallons to make. That's equivalent to about 108 showers. According to Dana Hunnes at UCLA Sustainability, a plant-based diet can reduce water consumption by up to 50 percent. If you are a big meat eater, try Meatless Mondays. If you tend to eat less meat, try cutting it out of your diet as a whole.

3. Reduce food waste

According to the World Resources Institute, an environmental think tank, inside the 1.3 billion tons of food wasted every year worldwide is 45 trillion gallons of water. The water we use to produce food that is then wasted could have been used for drinking water, industry, to irrigate different crops, or to replenish aquifers.
